Streptavidin (APC Conjugate) #15859

    Product Information

    Product Description

Streptavidin is conjugated to allophycocyanin (APC) fluorescent dye under optimal conditions and is useful for detecting biotinylated proteins (1,2).

    Fluorescent Properties

    • ← Excitation: 652 nm ← Emission: 658 nm

    Storage

Supplied in a lyophilized form that is stable for 12 months after receipt. Upon receipt, store at -20°C. Reconstitute with 1 mL of ddH2O and store at 4°C. Upon reconstitution, the product is in 10 mM tris (pH 8.2), 150 mM NaCl, 50 mM sucrose, 1 μg/mL pentachlorophenol, and 0.1% BSA. Use resuspended material within three months. If further dilution of the conjugate is required, use within one week.

Protect from light. Avoid multiple freeze/thaw cycles.

    Specificity / Sensitivity

Streptavidin has a remarkably high affinity for its natural ligand, biotin. The complex and irregular structure of the biotin-binding site makes it highly optimized for biotin binding and confers great specificity to the streptavidin-biotin complexes (4).

    Source / Purification

Streptavidin is a protein that is derived from the bacteria Streptomyces avidinii. Streptavidin (APC Conjugate) is purified by SEC-HPLC.

    Background

Streptavidin is a 53 kDa homotetramer isolated from Streptomyces avidinii for use in isolation and detection bioassays (3). Each streptavidin subunit forms high affinity non-covalent bonds with the vitamin biotin. Because of its strong non-covalent interaction with biotin, streptavidin can be used to isolate and detect biotinylated proteins (1,2).
