    Human

    Source / Purification

Monoclonal antibody is produced by immunizing animals with a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding Ala52 of human OAT protein.

    Background

Mitochondrial ornithine aminotransferase (OAT) catalyzes the reversible conversion of L-ornithine and 2-oxoglutarate to L-glutamate 5-semialdehyde and L-glutamate (1). Studies show that pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) relies on de novo ornithine synthesis from glutamine, a process mediated by OAT. Ornithine derived from glutamine is used for polyamine synthesis and is critical for PDA growth. In contrast, most adult normal tissues are dependent on ornithine derived from arginine for polyamine synthesis (2). In addition, it was shown that soluble dietary fiber remodels gut microbiota composition and enhances the abundance of Bacteroides acidifaciens, which promotes OAT expression in hepatocytes. OAT facilitates ammonia detoxification in the liver and, therefore, reduces alcohol-induced liver injury in mice (3).
